Cynthia Winfield

RN, BSN, MSN

Cynthia Winfield, Associate Professor of Nursing Education at Southwestern Illinois College has been recognized as a recipient of the 2017 Leader in Nursing  Award by the American Health Council. She will be sharing her knowledge and expertise on Clinical Studies, Teaching, Nursing.

With over two decades of experience in the field of Nursing, Cynthia offers valuable insight in her role as an Associate Professor of Nursing Education at Southwestern Illinois College. Established in 1946, Southwestern Illinois College is the fifth largest community college with three campuses located in Belleville, Granite City, and Red Bud. Additionally, Southwestern Illinois College has over twenty off campus sites, an Industrial Training Center at the Sam Wolf Granite City Campus, and Programs and Services for Older Persons (PSOP), a federally funded program that promotes independent, productive lives for seniors.

In her current capacity as an Associate Professor of Nursing Education at Southwestern Illinois College for over a decade, Cynthia’s day-to-day responsibilities include oversight of nurses, curriculum development, and conducting pre-clinical / post-clinical student conferences.

Following graduation with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mount Saint Mary College in 1992, Cynthia earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Southern Illinois University.  She holds a certification in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and is a Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse.

Cynthia’s greatest personal achievement is her ability to guide the next generation of nurses in a field she is passionate and loves. Most of all she is honored to be a featured speaker at seminars and lectures.

Looking back, Cynthia attributes her success to having a passion to help people. The desire to pursue the field of nursing developed after losing both her parents as a teenager.

In her free time, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family. Cynthia volunteers with her local church, where she helps the elderly patients, and their families by educating them on their healthcare needs.

Considering the future, Cynthia hopes for continual career growth, to obtain a doctorate degree, and provide an easier online learning experience for students.
