The American Health Council welcomed Dianna Tatum, ASN, BSN to its Board of Nurses for her outstanding contributions to the nursing field. Currently serving as the nurse manager at Cape Fear Valley Health’s CareLink — a nurse call center — in Fayetteville, N.C., as well as Ms. Tatum manages the Transfer Center, Switchboard, and External Transport departments. While she has held her current role for four years, she has spent the last 15 years in the healthcare industry expanding her skills and knowledge in nurse triage, telehealth and transfers.

Inspired by her grandmother —  who was a nurse herself — Ms. Tatum decided to pursue a career in nursing. Ms. Tatum began her career at Cape Fear Valley Health in 2002 as a street paramedic and later moved on to the emergency department as one of the first paramedics in the health system emergency department. For nearly five years, she served as a resource nurse, and by 2014, she accepted the role of nurse manager. After harvesting critical skills in nursing, Ms. Tatum decided to heighten her training by pursuing education, so she could continue to help patients and make a greater impact. She enrolled at Fayetteville State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 2015. She is currently enrolled in the Master of Business Administration program from Columbia Southern University, with a focus on healthcare administration and management.

At Cape Fear Valley Health, Ms. Tatum currently works with the Transfer Center on patient throughout, process improvement, and her teams on providing ease of access in addition to managing the nurse call center. To continue to evolve in her field, she became a member of the International Association of Flight and Critical Care Paramedics and served as the secretary for Elizabethtown Christian Academy School Board.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, attending her children’s activities and taking trips to the local lake. She donates to charitable organizations, including the Cape Fear Valley Foundation and The Lighthouse Society. With a successful career at hand, Ms. Tatum plans to continue to develop the Cape Fear Valley Transfer Center and nurse call centers to operate it with her team to positively impact the patients and their journey.
